MTech student at IIT Kanpur dies by suicide

KANPUR: An MTech student of IIT Kanpur died by suicide on the institute campus on Wednesday. The incident shook the institute and the students alike.
The police said that they came to know about the incident at around 9pm on Wednesday.
ACP, Kalyanpur, Abhishek Kumar Pandey said that the chief security officer of IIT Kanpur informed police at around 9pm on Wednesday that an MTech student of the institute had ended his life.It was after this a police team reached the spot and took the body into custody.
Pandey said that the parents of the student have been informed and that the body has been shifted to the mortuary for postmortem examination. The police official said that the student has been identified as Vikas Kumar Meena.
He said that the field unit of the city police had also inspected the place where the student took the extreme step. The police have collected evidence and are investigating the matter.
The IIT was yet to comment on the matter.
